A Slice of History:

In 1769, Nicholas Smith received a king’s land grant for a lake and 50 acres of land. With the purchase of the lake and 475 adjoining acres in 1959, A.B. Hardee began the development of a golf course and residential community.

Since then, this area has grown to 3,000 acres with six lakes and two semiprivate golf courses. Whispering Pines was incorporated in 1969 and even includes Whispering Woods, Whispering Winds and many other neighborhoods. Learn more about living in Whispering Pines at vwpnc.

Whispering Pines is home to a variety of communities, each with their own selection of homes on offer. It’s easy to envision living in this community with the amount of choices at hand. There’s something for everyone — first-time buyers, families, downsizers and vacationers. For those with school-aged children, there are some outstanding Moore County Public Schools serving the area, including Sandhills Farm Life Elementary, McDeeds Creek Elementary, New Century Middle and Union Pines High School.

There are also several charter and private schools — The O’Neal School, Moore Montessori, STARS Charter School, Pope John Paul II Catholic School, The Academy of Moore charter school, Sandhills Classical Christian School, and STARS Charter School. Moore County is also home to Sandhills Community College, one of the best community colleges in the state.
