A Slice of History:

John T. Patrick purchased 675 acres of land for $1,265 to build a health resort in what would eventually become Southern Pines. He even named the streets of this area after Northern states.
 
This community proved to be an ideal place for travel-weary train passengers who could stop and rest before continuing their journey. These days, though, folks end their journey here and call Southern Pines home.
