A Slice of History
John T. Patrick purchased 675 acres of land for $1,265 to build a health resort in what would eventually become Southern Pines. He even named the streets of this area after Northern states.
This community proved to be an ideal place for travel-weary train passengers who could stop and rest before continuing their journey. These days, though, folks end their journey here and call Southern Pines home.

Moore County is also home to Sandhills Community College, one of the best community colleges in the state.
